About Geocycle

The Environmental need for Geocycle.

You may well be aware of the Government's commitment to legislation and initiatives for the recovery (usually incineration) and recycling of an ever-increasing percentage of the 120 million tonnes of industrial, commercial and household waste that has to be dealt with annually in the UK. These measures include:

bullet  Landfill Tax, currently £11 per tonne, will rise by £1 per annum for the next three years.

bullet  EU Packaging Waste Regulations require all companies handling more than 50 tonnes of packaging material with a turnover of £2 million or more p.a. to be responsible for a recovery target of 45% and a material specific recycling target of 13%.

bullet  The recycling target for Local Authorities for domestic waste rises from a current 8% to 25% in 2005.

bullet  On-going education and awareness programmes aimed both at the commercial and consumer sectors organised by the DETR, DTI, Environment Agency, Waste Watch, Going for Green and other organisations, including Regional, National and EU funding.

Waste Handling Networks and the Net.

You may be less aware of the Waste Handling Networks, specialist collections, Internet trading, new market development, design exhibitions and awards schemes for recyclable materials arising from the legislation and environmental pressures described above.

These new initiatives represent a major opportunity for companies in the logistics business - the transport and storage of recyclable materials. The web is the obvious link between these companies and their potential new clients. This introduction is what Geocycle provides.

Through its unique Town-by Town, Region-by-Region network, and by offering a free contact name and address, Geocycle is becoming the most comprehensive source of logistic information for recyclable materials, collections, warehousing and transport in the UK.
